Oldham Athletic produced a commanding performance at Boundary Park, routing Tamworth 4-0 in a one-sided National League encounter. From the opening whistle, the Latics’ relentless attacking pressure overwhelmed the visitors.
The breakthrough came in the 15th minute. Josh Stones, heavily involved in the build-up play, provided the assist for James Norwood to slot home and open the scoring. Oldham’s dominance continued, and their sustained pressure yielded a second goal in the 37th minute. Norwood confidently converted a penalty to claim his brace. Just before the half-time whistle, Norwood completed a first-half hat-trick, expertly finishing a move that Jake Caprice had initiated.
The second half witnessed a flurry of substitutions from both sides. With a comfortable three-goal cushion, Oldham took the opportunity to rotate their squad. Tamworth, meanwhile, sought a route back into the match with their changes, but they found the resolute Oldham defence impenetrable. Substitute Josh Kay, introduced in the 67th minute, added further gloss to the scoreline, netting Oldham’s fourth goal just six minutes later in the 73rd minute.
Oldham’s tactical fluidity was evident throughout, their midfield controlling the tempo and effectively dictating the flow of the game. Tamworth, despite their best efforts, were simply unable to contain the Latics’ attacking prowess. The Oldham defence, rarely tested, comfortably dealt with any sporadic threats posed by the visitors.
This emphatic victory propels Oldham up to fourth in the National League table, improving on their pre-match position of fifth. Tamworth, meanwhile, remain in 15th place. Although the two sides haven’t met in the league for the past three seasons, this result starkly highlighted the current disparity in form between them.
