AFC Fylde 3-0 Gateshead

AFC Fylde emphatically reignited their season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Gateshead at Mill Farm. Having suffered a heavy defeat to Altrincham in their previous outing, the Coasters displayed a marked improvement in both vigour and tactical discipline, ultimately overwhelming their opponents.

The opening exchanges were a tentative affair, with both sides cautiously probing for an opening. The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute, sparked by a moment of individual brilliance. Jonathan Ustabasi, a constant menace down the right flank, delivered a pinpoint cross that found Tyler Roberts, who expertly directed the ball into the net. The goal visibly lifted the Coasters, who subsequently began to dominate possession and create a series of promising opportunities as the half drew to a close.

Gateshead emerged for the second half with renewed intent, but their efforts were consistently thwarted by a resolute Fylde defence. A flurry of substitutions followed as Gateshead sought an attacking spark and Fylde aimed to consolidate their advantage. The changes proved decisive for the home side. In the 77th minute, substitute Gavin Massey, introduced just four minutes earlier, doubled Fylde’s lead. This time, Roberts turned provider, laying the ball off for Massey to finish with aplomb. The goal visibly deflated Gateshead, and Fylde, sensing blood, pressed home their advantage. Just four minutes later, Jonathan Ustabasi again showcased his creative talents, delivering another assist, this time for Nick Haughton to seal a resounding 3-0 victory for the Coasters. The closing stages saw late yellow cards for Gateshead’s Owen Oseni and Luke Hannant, and for Fylde’s Ben Winterbottom, adding a touch of niggle to the final minutes, but the outcome was never in doubt.

The victory elevates AFC Fylde to 18th in the National League, while Gateshead remain in 4th. The Coasters will undoubtedly be buoyed by this performance, particularly following their 4-0 and 2-0 victories over Gateshead last season, highlighting a recent dominance over their opponents.
