Maidenhead United 2-2 Oldham Athletic

A pulsating 2-2 draw at York Road between Maidenhead United and Oldham Athletic did little to change either side’s fortunes in the National League. The Magpies enjoyed a blistering start, racing to a two-goal lead inside the opening 37 minutes. The first arrived in the 14th minute when James Golding, assisted by Reece Smith, found the back of the net. Maidenhead’s second came courtesy of an own goal from Oldham’s Emmanuel Monthe in the 37th minute.

Oldham, however, responded swiftly. Just before half-time, Monthe redeemed himself in dramatic fashion, pulling a goal back for the Latics, assisted by Mike Fondop-Talum. The half-time whistle blew with Maidenhead holding a slender 2-1 advantage.

The second half proved a tense affair, with both sides seeking tactical advantages through substitutions. At the break, Oldham replaced Will Sutton with Jake Caprice, aiming to bolster their defence while maintaining an attacking threat. Later, James Norwood replaced Kane Drummond and Josh Kay came on for Josh Lundstram. Maidenhead also made changes, introducing Kane Ferdinand for goalscorer Golding and Thierry Latty-Fairweather for Owen Cochrane.

Oldham’s changes revitalised their attack, and their pressure eventually told in the 80th minute. Charlie Raglan levelled the scores, finishing a move orchestrated by substitute Josh Kay. Despite a frantic final few minutes, with both teams searching for a winner, neither side could break the deadlock. The match finished 2-2, a fair result in a closely fought contest.

The draw leaves Maidenhead 18th and Oldham 6th in the National League table. The two sides have met four times in recent seasons, with Oldham boasting a slightly superior head-to-head record.
