Sutton United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Woking in a pulsating National League clash at The Laithwaite Community Stadium. A rapid two-goal burst midway through the first half proved decisive, leaving the home side with a significant uphill battle.
The visitors struck first in the 13th minute, Lewis Simper’s well-taken effort giving Sutton the early advantage. Their lead was doubled just four minutes later, in the 17th minute, when Jeremy Sivi found the net to make it 2-0. Woking, visibly shaken by the swift double blow, struggled to regain their footing. Sandwiched between the two Sutton goals, a yellow card for Woking’s Daniel Moss in the 16th minute further compounded their difficulties. Jermaine Anderson also received a yellow card for the hosts before the half-time whistle.
Woking manager made a double substitution at the break, introducing Matt Ward and Raheem Conte in an attempt to revitalise their attack. Despite the changes, clear-cut opportunities remained scarce for much of the second half. A glimmer of hope emerged for Woking in the 74th minute when substitute Tom Leahy pulled a goal back, capitalising on good work from fellow substitute Deon Moore to set up a tense finale. Despite a late surge of pressure and a flurry of yellow cards for both sides in the closing stages, Sutton held firm to claim all three points.
The victory elevates Sutton United to 8th in the National League table, while Woking drop to 13th.
