A closely fought encounter at the ARMCO Arena saw Solihull Moors and Wealdstone play out a 1-1 draw, a result that did little to improve either side’s league position. While Solihull had hoped to build on their recent victory against FC Halifax Town, they were ultimately held by a resilient Wealdstone side who fought back from a goal down to earn a share of the spoils.
Despite Solihull enjoying the lion’s share of possession in the opening exchanges, it was Wealdstone who carved out the first clear opportunities, only to be thwarted by some resolute defending and alert goalkeeping from Solihull, with Laurie Walker receiving a yellow card for his efforts. Against the run of play, Solihull took the lead just before half-time. A flowing move culminated in Jamey Osborne sliding a perfectly weighted through-ball to James Gale, who coolly slotted the ball past the Wealdstone keeper to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Solihull’s Conor Wilkinson also picked up a booking for a rash challenge before the break.
Wealdstone manager made a double change at half-time, introducing Jack Wells-Morrison and Callum McFarlane in an attempt to revitalise their attack. The substitutions had the desired effect, with the visitors emerging for the second half with renewed purpose. Their pressure told in the 56th minute when a cross into the Solihull penalty area deflected off Alex Whitmore and beyond the reach of the unfortunate Solihull goalkeeper, restoring parity.
The equaliser prompted a flurry of activity on both benches. Wealdstone brought on Brandon Mason, who was later shown a yellow card for a foul, and Sam Ashford, while Solihull introduced Bradley Stevenson, also cautioned, and Jacob Pinnington. The closing stages were played at a frenetic pace as both teams searched for a winning goal. Wealdstone substitute Yacouba Traore came agonisingly close to snatching all three points in stoppage time, but his effort drifted narrowly wide of the target. The final whistle confirmed the 1-1 draw, leaving Solihull 13th and Wealdstone 20th in the National League. While Solihull had won three of their previous four meetings with Wealdstone, they were unable to continue that run on this occasion.
